Saica has raised £4,800 for the Newlife Foundation during the last two years by donating non-standard recyclable items to the Foundation's trading team.

Normally, the Saica team processes or trades all of the materials collected from its waste management and recycling clients.

There are occasions when the materials to be recycled are either collected in insufficient quantities for re-sale, are too complicated to deconstruct, or are "one off" items which are more suited to community re-use.

To avoid none of these items ending up in landfill, the recycling company donates these to Newlife Trading, meeting its sustainability objective.

Recently donated items have included staff uniforms, which have been recycled; and furniture, cushions and clothing, which have been securely de-branded and sold through Newlife Trading stores in Staffordshire and Shropshire.

The items passed onto Newlife Trading are either recycled resold by the company, with the money used to generate essential funds from these sales for their associated charity, Newlife Foundation for Disabled Children.

Stephen Morgan, Newlife Foundation head of operations, said: "Donations of unwanted stock like these are vital. They help the charity to support thousands of families across the UK. With Saica's help we turn unwanted stock into essential support, transforming the lives of disabled and terminally ill children and their families."

Saica Natur's national account manager Kelly King added: "We fully support Newlife Trading. Not only are we diverting our client's materials away from landfill, we are also helping to raise money to support children and families in difficult circumstances. It's hugely worthwhile."
